As I discussed yesterday in my article about The Google Dilemma, I told you about some e-mail problems that Google has presented me with. Today, I’m going to tell you how I fixed the problems, and how you can too if you are experiencing such problems.
For a short recap, let me just tell you that I have a number of different e-mail accounts, 4 of which are with Gmail or with Google Apps. Additionally, my Google+ account is tied to one e-mail, and my Google AdSense account is tied to another e-mail account. A third e-mail account is my primary e-mail that I have been using for 16 years now, so I don’t have any desire to change my address. Because of some recent Google changes, I am in a various state of not being able to access some Google Services at all, and having difficulty in using other Google Services. I needed a solution!
Basically, over this past weekend, I decided I had experienced enough of these Google nuisance. So, I decided it was time to do something about it.
Problem was… I didn’t know what to do!
But wait. Google is my friend, right? Well, Google is creating the nuisances, but Google has a great search engine, and I was betting that I could find solutions by searching! And, that I did.
How did I fix my e-mail problem?
Many of the things that I found out in my searching were things that I already knew, but didn’t think about it that by combining many of these solutions for other problems, I could solve my various Google problems.
The first thing I realized is that even though I use most of these e-mail addresses sparingly, I still have to check on a regular basis in case I have received an important e-mail. I needed to fix that. Because it is important to me to be able to keep track of my AdSense earnings, I decided that I would make my e-mail account with AdSense the one that I would stay logged into as much as possible. Problem was, though, that my primary e-mail that I use was a different account, handled through Google Apps, so staying logged in to the one account would block me from using my primary e-mail!
How did I solve this problem? Well, I set up forwarding on all of my e-mail accounts so that every e-mail I get, no matter which account the e-mail comes to gets automatically forwarded to my Google account where my AdSense is registered. Problem was, though, that if I replied to e-mails, I wanted my response to come from my good old trusty e-mail address that I have been using for many years. I found out how to solve that too. In your Gmail account settings, you can specify other e-mail addresses to send mail from (and even send it through the SMTP server of that domain!). Wow! This enabled me to set up the perfect e-mail solution for my needs! So, now, I have all of my e-mails going to account A. I can reply to e-mails from any of my e-mail accounts too, using Google account A. Super! So, now, I can do all e-mail and be logged in to AdSense at the same time to monitor my site performance on earnings.
What about my Google+?
Well, I found a way to fix that too. You see, even though under the upgraded Google Apps accounts, you can only log into one account at a time, Google has a solution that allows you to simultaneously log into two accounts, but only two. Since I had all of my e-mail and AdSense hooked to just one account now, I enabled the login option for two accounts, and I stay logged in to my Google account that my Google+ is not linked to. So, that problem is also solved now.
So, are my Google problems solved now? Well, for the most part they are, but I still have one problem that I didn’t mention yet. Starting a couple of months ago, Google has decided that because my IP address is in the Philippines, they should serve all of my search results in Tagalog! Sus! I can’t speak Tagalog, only Bisaya or English! So, I am not happy with Google search right now, but I know enough Tagalog words that I can kind of make sense out of the results! Life is fun and challenging! Hey Google… just because you are in the Philippines, it doesn’t mean that you can speak Tagalog!
