OK, if you have been following the series about Making Money Online, so far you’ve decided what you are going to sell, and you’ve figured out how to get the product. What’s next?
Well, you are going to have to figure out how to actually sell it! Let’s have a look using some of our examples from before:
The plumber is selling information about how to fix plumbing in your house. He might not be doing a straight out cash transaction for the information, but we already established that he is selling it, one way or another. So, what is his method of selling going to be? Well, most likely, he will set up a website where he can share information. These days, the best choice for his needs would be to set up a blog. WordPress is the logical choice for him. I’m talking about a self hosted WordPress installation, not a hosted WordPress blog. So, the plumber will probably want to set up a blog.
The salesman will want to set up informational websites where he can promote and pitch affiliate deals. He may choose to use WordPress for this too, although any kind of website authoring tool will work for what he wants to do too.
How about the retailer? He might have the most options of all. Maybe he wants to start out by selling his sporting goods on eBay, then set up his own store. eBay can drive traffic to his online store. Well, to set up the store, he needs a shopping cart program. I personally recommend OSCommerce for this. The program will set up a website for him, manage his inventory, handle the sales, even arrange for customer payments.
So, as you can see, each different person in our examples is going to have a different method of getting his products sold. Do you have a product and can’t quite figure out how to “sell” it? If so, leave a comment, and I’ll try to help you come up with some ideas!
