Well, it has been quite a week here on Ways to Make a Living! I hope you have been enjoying my series of articles. It has been rare to have a week with an article every day here on WTML blog, but I have kind of enjoyed doing the writing, and I hope you have enjoyed the reading as well!
Let’s get a rundown of what I have written this week so far:
- Monday: Full “Stream” ahead
- Tuesday: Ways that I make money as a writer
- Wednesday: Why I wanted to turn writing & publishing into an income river
- Thursday: Content Writing & Self Publishing Results
- Friday: That’s Today!
I noted yesterday that some time back, as part of my effort to get more serious about my eBook business, I built a better online bookstore. One of the goals that I had for this was to have a good and successful affiliate program for my products.
If you are new to making money on the Internet, perhaps you are wondering what an affiliate program is. Here is how it is defined by Hostgator:
An affiliate program is a marketing program where you can receive commission for helping a parent company (such as Me) generate sales. The parent company provides you with all your advertising tools such as banner ads, links and tracking codes for you to place on your sites, in your emails or other internet listings.
When a visitor to your site or listing clicks on an ad or link, the transaction is tracked. If this transaction results in a sale for the parent company, you get paid for that sale. It’s that simple!
So, basically, I set up a program where people like you could refer people over to my bookstore website, and if the people you refer buy something from me, you get a 25% commission.
I got the affiliate program up and running a little over a year ago. I got a number of people signing up to be affiliates and advertise my products. But, few of them achieved much success. I find that for the most part, the reason is because most of the people who signed up have websites that are not all that active. Sometimes these people write a new article on their site only once every few months or so. That is not the path to success in any kind of marketing.
About a month and a half ago, a new guy signed up as an Affiliate. I didn’t think much of it… until about mid-July. This fellow started making sales on a lot of my items! Much better than any other affiliate ever had done.
For the month of July, this new affiliate (sorry, I am not naming names, it’s a privacy issue) was responsible for sales of my products in the amount of $1140. That’s pretty nice, don’t you think? $1,140 worth of eBooks is a lot of eBooks. So, given that I pay a 25% commission on all sales, this fellow’s earnings for July were $285. That is for his first full month as an affiliate. I’ll be honest here, I was very, very impressed with his sales results!
Usually, when you first start doing something new, it takes time to make adjustments and get everything just right. So, imagine, if this fellow does some fine tuning over the coming months, he might be earning $500 or even $1,000 per month just from being an affiliate of my bookstore! He probably has other affiliate deals that he advertises on his site as well!
